STRATEGIC NEGOTIATION SKILLS

Good negotiation skills are critical to success both at work and home. When people enter into a business, a social association or a marriage, a process of give and take starts resulting in disagreements. Consensus is required. Negotiation skills are the foundation of building such consensuses.

At work, we negotiate for our salaries, benefits and even vacations; as business leaders we negotiate for prices, services and agreements; at home we negotiate with our spouse to select schools for our kids, to rent an apartment, to buy a car…

This 18-hour workshop covers the fundamental skills behind effective negotiations. We will learn simple rules like ‘negotiate on the standards before negotiating on the substance’. Similarly, we shall learn that we should have an alternative if the negotiation were to break down called BATNA (best alternative to a negotiated agreement) which empowers you to negotiate better.

We shall see how sometimes it is better to walk away from a negotiation than to carry on and how to create a win-win situation in negotiations by avoiding win-lose or lose-lose situations.

Lastly, We shall see the Islamic perspective of negotiations and how honesty and integrity forms the most important substance of effective negotiations and how sometimes we are not only negotiating for price but also for our honor and integrity. We shall see the importance of keeping the bigger picture in mind. Is it really worth getting our way with our wife in buying furniture while our relationship is being damaged?

Mr. Muhammad Khalid Ali, CEO - Security Leasing Corporation Limited
This workshop has been an eye opener and will change my methods in negotiations. Though Alhamdulillah, I have been using a number of the techniques which have been taught in this workshop. I feel I will become more effective in my future negotiations, problem solving & finding wise solutions. It has really taught me how to use different tools, finding only the others party interests’/perception/ emotions and then finding the most effective solution which would be acceptable to all interested parties.

Kamran Ali Khan, CEO – M.K. Associates
Al-Hamdo Lillah this course has been an honor and an eye opener. Now I have better tools and ethics as well as BATNA to solve / resolve rather fight for a proposal. Lately I have been very hard on the people than issues. Research was negligible, now I realize the power of interests and exploring interests before going into a negotiation. Jazak Allah- o- Khair.
